Provide teachers with the knowledge and tools for enhancing collaboration in the classroom and encouraging research through the use of wikis

Audience
The faculty of a sixth through eighth grade middle school who have laptop labs in their classrooms and are seeking trainign on Web 2.0 technologies.

Outcome - What do you want the learners to be able to do?
  1. Understand wikis
  2. Understand the various applications of wikis in the classroom setting
  3. Understand how wikis enhance the research process by encouraging critical thinking and collaboration
  4. Create and manage a wiki
  5. Improve an existing practice in the classroom via a wiki

Curriculum - What do they need to know?
  1. Learners need to know the various web sites that offer free or low cost wikis ie: wikispaces, pbwiki, wetpaint, livejournal
  2. Classroom wikis can be an organizational tool, digital storage for classroom notes and summaries or the outcome of a research project
  3. Wikis are an interactive space for virtual conversation where understanding of a topic can be developed.
  4. Learners need to know how establish a safe, educational environment for students to use.
  5. Learners need to know what aspect of their curriculum or classroom management practice they would like to improve via a wiki

Pedagogy - What activity will faciliate learning?
Faculty members will create a wiki to implement into their classroom practices.
